Nearly everyone ought to cleanse at least once a year because we’re exposed to an average of 100 chemicals daily, including pollutants, pesticides, household cleaning products and chemicals. Also, common medications can inhibit the liver’s ability to adequately process toxins. Removal of waste material—detoxification—is essential to the healthy functioning of our bodies. Your liver, kidneys, lungs and skin work hard every day to rid your body of toxins, but they can become overburdened. Just like your car needs periodic tune-ups, so does your body to work effectively at keeping you healthy. An elimination diet is a great way to regain control over how you feel and your overall health. This is a journey of self-exploration and discovery. The elimination phase takes three weeks, and then the reintroduction phase takes another three weeks. At first it may be a little tough because you’ll most likely be eliminating foods that you like to eat and/or crave, but are causing inflammation and subsequent GI issues. Don’t worry, you get to eat real food as you progress through the diet, plus you will feel better than ever and be full of energy! If we had a drug that worked as effectively as an elimination diet, it would be the best selling drug of all time.
The benefit of this diet is that it will detoxify your liver, blood and cells; heal the lining of your digestive tract; balance your blood sugar; and help to identify which foods may be causing some or all of your symptoms. I’ll provide a meal plan with recommended foods and foods to avoid.
